Plot Summary

A man known as Ryder and his partners, Bashkin, Emri, and ex-train operator Phil Ramos, hijack Pelham 123, a New York City Subway 6 train, at 77th Street. Taking the passengers hostage, they demand $10 million in cash within an hour from Metropolitan Transportation Authority employee Walter Garber, who works as a train dispatcher.

Bashkin kills a police officer and releases all passengers except those in the front car. Garber negotiates with Ryder while Ramos and Emri set up Internet access. Ryder watches stock markets react to the hijacking and threatens to kill hostages. Lieutenant Camonetti takes over negotiations, leading to a tense standoff.
