Plot Summary

After the Separation of Japan in 1945, the northern island of Hokkaidō (or Ezo) is occupied by the “Union.” In 1974, the Union begins constructing a mysterious tower on Hokkaido. The story follows three friends in Aomori, Japan: Hiroki Fujisawa, Takuya Shirakawa, and Sayuri Sawatari.

Promise Made, Promise Broken

The three friends find a crashed drone aircraft and begin rebuilding it with the help of Mr. Okabe. They promise to one day fly to Hokkaido together. However, before they can fulfill this promise, Sayuri mysteriously disappears during the summer, causing Hiroki and Takuya to drift apart.

Parallel Universes and Secrets Revealed

Three years later, Takuya and Hiroki have taken different paths. Takuya is working as a physicist researching parallel universes and the Hokkaido Tower. Sayuri is revealed to be hospitalized with narcolepsy, trapped in a parallel universe. Secrets about Sayuri and the tower are slowly uncovered, leading to a shocking revelation.

A Race Against Time
