Seven-spotted ladybug Rube lives in a glass cage inside a greenhouse within a glassy laboratory. He yearns for the legendary bug paradise Golden Canyon. When he assists dragonfly Master Water in escaping from the pursuing wasp guards inside the laboratory, he agrees to embark on a journey together. However, Master Water has no intentions of reaching Golden Canyon and abandons Rube along the way. At a nearby pond, a frog prince nearly devours Master Water whole. Rube intervenes and tangles the frog’s lashing tongue in water reeds, saving his companion. Grateful, the frog prince sends his royal guards to escort them to a giant bird that transports them to Golden Canyon, revealed to be a construction site.

Encounter with Little Fatty

While searching for sustenance in bug utopia, Master Water gets captured by a human child named Little Fatty, who collects insects in a glass jar guarded by his pet lizard T-Rex. Rube leaps into action once again, propelling himself against the jar with all his might, causing it to fall off the shelf and incapacitating T-Rex. As the lizard regains consciousness, it begins to feast on the fleeing critters until the Wasp Queen arrives with her royal troops. Deceived by Master Water multiple times, the Wasp Queen had previously dispatched her guards to apprehend him. Witnessing Rube’s bravery, she redirects her troops to aid in the battle against the lizard. With their newfound unity, the bugs overcome the lizard and collaboratively reconstruct their newfound home.
