Plot Summary

During their visit to Bucknell University, husband and wife Scott and Kate Johansen warn their daughter of the dangers of being in college. Alex acknowledges her parents’ warnings and expresses her interest in attending the same university her parents went to. The Johansens expect Alex’s university fees to be funded by their community’s scholarship program.

Trouble in the Neighborhood

At a community town hall meeting, city councilor Bob Schaeffer announces the cancellation of the scholarship program in favor of building a community pool. The Johansens, along with everyone else, except them, disagree with this decision. The couple tries various ways to find funding, but all their attempts fail.

A Trip to Las Vegas

Feeling desperate, the Johansens accompany their friend Frank to Las Vegas in hopes of finding a solution to their financial problems. After a series of wins and losses, they come back home no better off than they were before.

Starting an Underground Casino

Frank suggests starting an underground casino at his house to raise money for Alex’s tuition and salvage his own marriage. The casino operation runs smoothly until city councilor Bob suspects foul play and launches an investigation.
