Detectives on the Case: Popeye and Cloudy

Meanwhile, in New York City, detectives Jimmy “Popeye” Doyle and Buddy “Cloudy” Russo enjoy a night out at the Copacabana. Their evening takes a turn when Popeye spots Salvatore “Sal” Boca and his young wife, Angie, mingling with mobsters involved in narcotics. The detectives begin to tail the couple, uncovering a connection between the Bocas and lawyer Joel Weinstock, a key player in the narcotics underworld.

Popeye soon learns that a significant shipment of heroin is on its way, prompting the detectives to persuade their supervisor to authorize a wiretap on the Bocas’ phones. Joined by federal agents Mulderig and Klein, they intensify their efforts to crack the case.

To further evade capture, Charnier instructs Boca to meet him in Washington D.C., where Boca requests a delay to avoid the police. However, Charnier is determined to conclude the deal swiftly. On a flight back to New York City, Nicoli offers to eliminate Popeye, but Charnier dismisses the idea, knowing that another officer would simply take his place.

A Chase Through the City

As the plot thickens, Nicoli attempts to snipe Popeye but misses his target. In a thrilling chase, Popeye pursues Nicoli, who boards an elevated train. In a desperate move, Popeye commandeers a passing car, crashing into several vehicles along the way.

Charnier drives to an old factory on Wards Island to meet Weinstock and deliver the drugs. After confirming the quality of the heroin, Charnier cleverly hides the money inside the rocker panels of another car he purchased at a junk car auction, planning to return to France with the proceeds.

However, as Charnier and Sal drive off in the Lincoln, they are intercepted by a large contingent of police led by Popeye. A dramatic chase ensues, culminating in a shootout at the factory where Boca is killed, and most of the criminals surrender.
