Rose (Greta Gerwig) decides to leave her unfaithful husband and meets a comatose boy (Olly Alexander) at a deserted beachside lighthouse in a boarded-up beach town in Delaware on a cloudy fall day. Despite trying to take him to a hospital, the boy awakens and refuses, leading them to a cafe where he confides in Rose about being dumped by a girl he traveled from England to see.
Rose takes the boy along as she seeks to confront her former friend Emma (Eleonore Hendricks) for betraying her with her husband.
