Dr. Emilio Lizardo’s Escape and Revenge

Meanwhile, Dr. Emilio Lizardo, a former colleague of Banzai’s who is now incarcerated at the Trenton Home for the Criminally Insane, sees a news report about Banzai’s successful test. Lizardo, who had previously worked with Hikita on the overthruster in 1938, had become trapped between dimensions due to a premature test. His encounter with aliens left him changed and vengeful. The Hong Kong Cavaliers and Penny Priddy

As Banzai and his band, “The Hong Kong Cavaliers,” perform at a nightclub, he notices a distressed woman in the audience named Penny Priddy. During a heartfelt song dedicated to her, she attempts suicide, which is mistakenly interpreted as an assassination attempt on Banzai. After a brief encounter at the jail, Banzai discovers that Penny is the long-lost identical twin sister of his deceased wife, Peggy, and he bails her out.

A Shocking Press Conference

Later, during a press conference to discuss his Jet Car experience and the alien specimen he collected, Banzai receives an unexpected electrical shock while on the phone. Back at the Banzai Institute, they are visited by John Parker, a messenger from John Emdall, the leader of the peaceful Black Lectroids from Planet 10. Parker reveals that her people have been at war with the hostile Red Lectroids for years. The Red Lectroids, led by the tyrannical Lord John Whorfin, escaped to Earth due to Lizardo’s failed test of the overthruster. Emdall fears that Whorfin will attempt to acquire Banzai’s perfected overthruster to free his allies, which could lead to a catastrophic nuclear war.

Tracking the Red Lectroids

The Cavaliers track the Red Lectroids to Yoyodyne Propulsion Systems in New Jersey. They realize that Orson Welles’s famous broadcast of “The War of the Worlds” actually described the Lectroids’ arrival in 1938, although they forced Welles to retract his statement. Yoyodyne has been constructing a spacecraft disguised as a new U.S. Air Force bomber to cross into the 8th dimension.

Penny’s Kidnapping and the Rescue Mission

As the Cavaliers plan their next move, the Red Lectroids break into the Institute and kidnap Penny, unaware that she is carrying the overthruster. At Yoyodyne, Penny bravely refuses to reveal the overthruster’s location, leading to her torture by the Red Lectroids. Banzai enters Yoyodyne headquarters alone, followed by the Cavaliers and the Blue Blaze Irregulars, a group of civilians ready to assist in the fight.

The Final Confrontation

Banzai successfully rescues Penny and battles the Red Lectroids, but she is injured in the process. While the Cavaliers care for her, Banzai and Parker sneak onto the Yoyodyne spacecraft.
