In the bustling city of Louisville, Kentucky, cab driver John Winger faces a series of unfortunate events, including losing his job, his apartment, and his girlfriend Anita. Determined to turn his life around, John decides to join the Army and convinces his friend Russell Ziskey to join him on this new adventure. Their journey begins with a visit to a recruiting office and soon, they find themselves in basic training.
As they meet their fellow recruits and drill sergeant, Sergeant Hulka, John and Russell realize that military life is no walk in the park. John’s carefree attitude clashes with Hulka’s strict demeanor, while Russell finds himself entangled in a romance with MPs Louise Cooper and Stella Hansen.
