One day, while cleaning the lobby, the projectionist discovers a dollar bill in the garbage. Excited, he adds it to the two dollars he already has. However, when a woman approaches him claiming she lost a dollar, he selflessly returns it. Shortly after, a sad old woman also claims to have lost a dollar, and he gives her the last of his money, leaving him with just one dollar.

A Sweet Gesture Turns Sour

Meanwhile, a man rummaging through the garbage finds a wallet filled with cash. With his remaining dollar, the projectionist decides to buy a box of chocolates for The Girl, but he cleverly changes the price tag from $1 to $4 to impress her. He presents the chocolates to her at her home, hoping to win her affection. In a romantic gesture, he later gives her a ring, symbolizing his love.

However, the plot thickens when The Sheik sneaks into The Girl’s house and steals her father’s pocket watch, played by Joe Keaton. He pawns the watch for $4 and uses the money to buy a $3 box of chocolates for The Girl. When her father realizes the watch is missing, The Sheik discreetly slips the pawn ticket into the projectionist’s pocket, framing him for the theft.

The Projectionist’s Quest for Justice

Determined to clear his name, the projectionist offers to solve the mystery. However, when the pawn ticket is discovered in his pocket, he is banished from The Girl’s house.
