In the desolate desert landscape of Sirius 6-B, a trio of humans embarks on a perilous mission to transmit a distress beacon from a defunct communication bunker back to Earth. As they approach their destination, they encounter deadly Screamers, resulting in the loss of two team members. Only one manages to reach safety and successfully triggers the beacon, setting off a chain of events that will lead to a harrowing rescue mission.

The Medusa’s Mission to Sirius 6B

Two months later, the interstellar spacecraft Medusa, dispatched by Alliance Command, approaches Sirius 6B in response to the distress signal. The ship carries a volunteer rescue team eager to uncover the fate of the previous crew. After emerging from hypersleep, medical officer Schwartz checks the vital signs of each crew member, while pilot Olof Soderquist shares tales of his adventurous Viking ancestry.

Before landing, the ship’s AI briefs the crew on the discovery of Berynium on Sirius 6B, the subsequent civil war, and the creation of the Screamers to end the stalemate. It is believed that all Screamers have become inert after eradicating life on the planet. The last known survivor, Alliance Colonel Joseph Hendrickson, committed suicide 13 years ago, and there has been no communication from Sirius 6B until the recent SOS.

Time Constraints and Hidden Motives

Specialist Rafe Danielli informs the team that Sirius 6B will soon face a planet-wide solar meteor strike, limiting their mission time to just under a week. Commander Andy Sexton questions Lt. Victoria Bronte about her motivations for volunteering, but she insists her intentions are purely professional.

Upon landing, Sgt. Romulo distributes TAB devices to the team, explaining their function in case the Screamers are still active. Each member synchronizes their timers for a six-day return window, while Soderquist remains behind to monitor the ship’s status.

Day 1: The Search for the Distress Signal

The team deploys to track the distress signal, unaware they are being watched by an unseen observer. They discover a hillside bunker and enter, but Commander Sexton is injured by radioactive acid leaking from the ceiling. Inside, they find a dormant Screamer factory, confirming that Screamers were once scavengers, using parts of their victims to survive. Despite the potential value of Screamer technology, Commander Sexton reminds the team that this information is classified.

That night, while the team sleeps, Commander Sexton sneaks into the factory to download Screamer design specifications, inadvertently reactivating the factory.

Day 2: The Danger Escalates
