A group of employees working for the oil company Vaxxilon are stationed on a boat in the Indian Ocean near Somalia. Night shift supervisor, Karsen, sends four divers, Engel, Mitchell, Jones, and Hurst, down in the diving bell to repair a damaged oil pipe at the sea bottom.
After completing their task, a storm hits the support ship, causing the bell’s cables to snap. Desperate, the crew tries to contact the ship, only to discover Karsen’s body and the wreck of the supply ship on the ocean floor.
The team must now rely on their diving skills and limited oxygen to escape from the depth of 670 feet (200 m) beneath the surface.
Against orders, Hurst embarks on a risky mission to find additional oxygen but succumbs to hypothermia, leading to a tragic decision by Jones to cut off his oxygen supply to end his suffering.
Rescue seems bleak until a Chinese fishing boat picks up the distress signal, followed by the arrival of the navy frigate HMS Marlborough. With time running out, daring dives and sacrifices are made to ensure the survival of the stranded divers.
The journey to safety is fraught with challenges, including the loss of Mitchell to jellyfish stings and the race against time as the oxygen supply dwindles.
