His artwork takes a remarkable upturn, commencing with a beautiful portrait of Jennie.
After speaking to one of Jennie’s teachers at the convent, Eben discovers that Jennie habitually rowed out to Land’s End Lighthouse alone. They find each other on the island, but are both swept into the sea by a strong wave. Though Eben attempts to save Jennie, she is swept away. Eben is rescued by some locals and Miss Spinney, who oversees his recovery.
