It all starts one night when a girl named Pearl (Emily Meade) is invited to the house of a girl named Emma Rigby. She turns out to be a Nightwalker, a type of vampire that cannot be harmed in daylight in their human form. After Pearl is bitten and stabs the girl in the heart, she starts to transform into a Nightwalker as the Nightwalker Queen, Zoe Sidel, and her minions give her a captive human as her first meal.
Sometime later, a college girl named Leah (Leila George) is working on a play run by its director, James Franco, and befriends Pearl. She falls in love with Pearl, much to the dismay of her mother Julie (Tori Spelling). Leah learns that Pearl is a Nightwalker. Pearl’s Nightwalker group preys on abusive men and forcibly inducts women by biting them. The Nightwalker Queen targets Leah as the next member and wants Pearl to bite her, threatening action if she refuses.
Julie tries to get Leah interested in dating a man named Bob Segal (Nick Eversman), who feels entitled to Leah and conspires with Julie to win her heart. When Leah shows no interest and indicates her sexuality as a lesbian, Bob resorts to spiking her drink with a date rape drug in an attempt to assault her. The Nightwalkers intervene but Bob transforms into one of them.
Bob leads the Nightwalkers in an assault on Leah, disrupting the play she is in. Julie follows them and is killed by Bob trying to rescue Leah. Leah retaliates by seemingly killing Bob and Pearl taking out other Nightwalkers. In the aftermath, Leah asks Pearl to turn her into a Nightwalker so they can be together forever, which Pearl obliges.
One year later, the Nightwalker gang, now led by Bob, is still active and scarred. They enter a Halloween party, influenced by their new leader as they continue their nocturnal activities.
