In the Minoan Bronze Age, a dark shadow hangs over the village of Thena. Every three years, King Deucalion sends eight youths to the heart of the Minoan capital, where they face a terrifying fate. These young villagers are cast into a labyrinth, where they are sacrificed to the Minotaur, a monstrous god. This terrifying tradition continues as the people of Thena await their grim fate.
The protagonist of this story, Theo, is the son of Cyrnan, the village chief. Haunted by the memory of his beloved Ffion, who was taken as a sacrifice years earlier, Theo finds himself desperate for answers. A leprous prophetess reveals a shocking truth: Ffion may still be alive, trapped in the labyrinth. Against his father’s wishes, Theo makes a life-changing decision—he replaces one of the chosen sacrifices, intending to save Ffion and put an end to the Minotaur’s reign of terror.
Theo joins seven others—his best friend Danu, Danu’s love interest Morna, the resentful Tyro, Tyro’s lover Didi, Vena, Ziko, and Nan—on their journey to the Minoan capital. As they enter the labyrinth, their fate becomes increasingly uncertain. The Minotaur, a monstrous beast lurking in the shadows, begins to hunt them down one by one, starting with Nan. With each passing moment, their chances of survival grow slimmer.
As the group struggles to escape, they encounter Queen Raphaella, the sister of King Deucalion and an unwilling lover to the Minotaur. Desperate to help the survivors, Raphaella offers them a way out of the labyrinth. However, not all of them trust her intentions. Vena, wary of her, tries to leave the group, but her distrust proves fatal when the Minotaur kills her. The remaining survivors follow Raphaella’s lead, traveling deeper into the labyrinth to reach a chamber at its center where a heavy wooden door promises their escape.
The group, however, faces another obstacle. Raphaella had arranged for her handmaiden, Ramaya, to open the door from the other side, but Ramaya was caught and executed by Deucalion. Now, the survivors must break open the door themselves. Their attempts, however, awaken the Minotaur, who kills Ziko and forces the group to scatter in fear. Now, Theo, Danu, and Morna must find a way to survive as the labyrinth becomes even more deadly.
While searching for an escape, Theo and his companions come across Turag, a villager who had been part of a previous sacrifice. Turag, having lived for years in the labyrinth, has gone mad from the horrors he endured. Despite his insanity, he has managed to evade the Minotaur. Using Turag’s map, Theo believes he has found Ffion’s location. But what he uncovers is heartbreaking—Ffion’s lifeless body lies in the labyrinth, a victim of poisonous underground gas.
Meanwhile, Tyro and Didi have managed to climb toward a potential exit, a hole in the labyrinth’s ceiling. Tyro reaches up and pulls Didi toward him, but in the chaos, Didi panics and falls onto the Minotaur’s deadly horns. The group is slowly whittled down as Danu and Morna are cornered by the Minotaur. In a final act of bravery, Danu sacrifices himself to save Morna, leaving Theo and the others to face the beast alone.
In a final confrontation, Raphaella reveals the horrifying origin of the Minotaur. Her mother, in a twisted act of bestiality, gave birth to the beast, creating a living god. As the creature grew, so did its appetite. Eventually, it killed Raphaella and Deucalion’s brother, setting off a series of events that led to the ritual sacrifices. The people of Thena were forced to offer their youth as tribute to keep the Minotaur satisfied, thus ensuring the survival of the Minoan empire. In a cruel twist of fate, Raphaella had sent the leprous prophetess to find someone capable of killing the Minotaur—leading Theo into the labyrinth with the false hope of finding Ffion alive.
As the Minotaur prepares to finish off Theo, Tyro sacrifices himself to give Theo a chance. With his back against the wall, Theo manages to lure the beast into an underground gas vent. Using Ffion’s amulet, Theo creates a spark, igniting the gas and setting the labyrinth aflame. Theo and Raphaella dive into a nearby water pond to survive the explosion, but the Minotaur is not easily defeated. When the flames die out, the beast emerges from the wreckage, angrier than ever.
In a desperate final attempt, Theo uses one of the Minotaur’s broken horns to pierce its mouth. Wounded but relentless, the Minotaur charges at Theo one last time. Theo jams the horn deeper into the creature’s mouth, and as it charges at him, it crashes into a rock, impaling itself on the horn and finally dying. With the beast slain, Theo, Raphaella, and the remaining survivors—Morna and Turag—escape the collapsing labyrinth.
On the surface, they find that the explosion from the labyrinth has caused the palace to collapse. Deucalion, severely wounded, is smothered to death by Raphaella. With both the Minotaur and the tyrannical king dead, the Minoan empire begins to crumble. Theo becomes a legend, forever remembered for his role in killing the Minotaur and ending the brutal tradition of sacrifice.
