Frankie is a young filmmaker living in West Hollywood. She dropped out of school to pursue her dreams of making art, and now works a thankless job bartending with her friend Jake. Her main goal is to grow her struggling YouTube channel.

Encountering Link

One day, Frankie encounters Link, an eccentric young man working as a costumed mascot in a mall. Link grabs a painting Frankie was filming and performs a passionate monologue, urging passersby to pay attention to the art. Frankie records the monologue and uploads it to her channel, where it quickly becomes her most popular video.

Creating Content

After re-encountering Link by chance, Frankie befriends him. Link, who claims to be anti-establishment and anti-social media, agrees to appear in more of Frankie’s videos as long as she quits her job. Together with Jake, they create a video called “No One Special” starring Link as a satire of a loud social media influencer.

The Rise and Fall

The trio gains attention from a social media manager who suggests in-video product endorsements for profit. They launch a show called “Your Phone or Your Dignity,” but infighting ensues as they start losing views. Tensions escalate when Link humiliates a contestant on the show, leading to Jake quitting and a public confrontation with other internet celebrities.

Revelations and Redemption

Frankie learns the truth about Link’s past and manipulative behavior, leading to a falling out during a livestream event. Link, now revealed as Alex Goodrich, goes off-script and expresses disdain for social media’s toxic influence. Despite the chaos, the audience cheers for him as Frankie and Jake reconcile at a memorial for a deceased contestant.
