Henry Matthews (Uriah Shelton) resides in a small Alabama town alongside his parents, William (Dash Mihok) and Lisa (Nicki Aycox). While his father juggles a role as a garage mechanic and Reserves member, his mother focuses on attending group-therapy sessions to combat her drug addiction. Despite his mother’s newfound sobriety, Henry, a middle-school student, faces bullies at school and seeks solace in the Baptist Church, where he encounters Pastor John (Ruben Studdard). Through their shared passion for music, Pastor John recognizes Henry’s vocal talent, leading to an invitation to the Alabama Teen Star Quest in Birmingham.
