Alice Hughes, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, is working on her latest manuscript, a potential sequel to her best-known work, You Always/You Never. Due to health reasons, Alice is unable to fly to the United Kingdom to receive a literary award, leading her agent Karen to suggest she travel on the Queen Mary 2. Alice invites her nephew Tyler, along with her estranged friends Roberta and Susan, to accompany her on the voyage.

Once on the ship, Karen befriends Tyler to gain information about Alice’s new book.
