The Gang of Wreckers

The film “Jamaica Inn” is set in 1820, during the reign of King George IV. The story revolves around Jamaica Inn, a seemingly ordinary hostelry that harbors a gang of cut-throats and thieves led by innkeeper Joss Merlyn. The gang’s nefarious activities include causing shipwrecks by extinguishing coastal warning beacons and stealing the cargo from the wrecked ships.

Arrival of Mary Yellan

One evening, Mary Yellan, a young Irish-woman, arrives near Jamaica Inn seeking to reunite with her aunt Patience. Little does she know that Sir Humphrey Pengallan, the local squire and justice of the peace, is the mastermind behind the wrecking gang. Despite Pengallan’s warnings, Mary decides to stay at Jamaica Inn with her aunt.

The Escape

After discovering Pengallan’s true nature, Mary helps Jem Trehearne, a member of the gang, escape their clutches.
