In 1934, Ellsworth “Bumpy” Johnson is released from Sing Sing and returns to Harlem, where mobster Dutch Schultz asserts his control of the lucrative numbers game. Reuniting with his cousin “Illinois” Gordon, Bumpy returns to the employ of Harlem crime boss Madame Queen, whose business is threatened by Schultz.
Madame Queen is attacked by Schultz’s men, but Bumpy and his fellow mobster Whispers come to her rescue. However, Schultz is determined to take over Harlem and hires hitmen to kill Bumpy. As the conflict escalates, Bumpy’s wealth and power grow, leading to more violence and casualties.
At an ice cream parlor, Bumpy is poisoned, leading to a chain of events that culminate in a violent confrontation with Schultz at the Cotton Club. The feud between the two mobsters intensifies, resulting in devastating consequences for both sides.
As tensions reach a boiling point, Bumpy and Schultz are forced to meet with Mafia boss Luciano to settle their dispute. The meeting takes a deadly turn, leading to a series of betrayals and violent acts that ultimately result in the end of Schultz’s reign in Harlem.
