In the 1990s, the Earth’s ozone layer is destroyed by industrial pollution, leading to widespread deaths. Connor MacLeod, inspired by his wife’s death, funds a project to create an electromagnetic shield to protect the Earth, but the shield has unintended consequences.

By 2024, Connor is mortal and old, haunted by flashbacks of his past on the planet Zeist where he was chosen to lead a rebellion against corrupt leaders. Locked into immortal lives, Connor and Ramirez are exiled to Earth to fight until only one survives and receives the Prize.
