Plot Summary of Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio Full Movie

In Italy, woodcarver Geppetto loses his son Carlo to an aerial bombardment during World War I. Twenty years later, he uses the pine wood planted in Carlo’s grave to create a puppet in drunken despair. The Wood Sprite appears in the middle of the night and brings it to life, christening him Pinocchio due to the puppet being made of pine.

Pinocchio’s Journey

Geppetto assigns Sebastian J. Cricket, who formerly lived inside the pine wood, to guide Pinocchio morally. After exploring and destroying his home, Geppetto decides to send Pinocchio to school and gifts him a schoolbook that used to belong to Carlo. On his way to school, Pinocchio is intercepted by showman Count Volpe and his monkey Spazzatura.

Geppetto arrives to take Pinocchio back, resulting in a confrontation that causes them to fight over him. Pinocchio, in the afterlife, discovers he is immortal and will revive when an hourglass empties, but with each death, he spends more time in the afterlife.

Struggles and Sacrifices

Upon returning to Earth, an army officer meets with Geppetto to discuss Pinocchio. Pinocchio must choose between being sent to military youth camp or performing in the circus to earn money for Geppetto.

When Pinocchio learns the truth about Volpe’s deception and Mussolini’s intentions, he faces a series of challenges, including being executed and burned by Volpe. Pinocchio and his friends ultimately find themselves in a military recruit training camp, where they must stand up against authority figures and face the harsh realities of war.

Final Sacrifice and Reunion

Swallowed by the Terrible Dogfish, Pinocchio, Geppetto, Sebastian, and Spazzatura reunite inside the creature’s belly. Pinocchio sacrifices himself to save his loved ones by detonating a naval mine inside the monster. As Pinocchio meets Death once more, he demands to be sent back to save Geppetto from drowning, willing to become mortal to do so.

Ultimately, Geppetto uses his wish to revive Pinocchio, bringing the family back together. Pinocchio decides to travel the world and find his own place in life, cherishing the time spent with his family.
