Levy Yitzchok, an orphaned yeshiva student, sets out on a journey in search of his identity. Restless and distressed, he leaves his study hall seeking “real Jews” and wanders through the Belorussian countryside.
Eventually, Levy finds himself in a small village where two peasant families reside. Dovid-Noich, his wife Rochel, and their children Hersh Ber, Avraham Yankov, and Tsine, welcome Levy into their home. He is invited to stay as a boarder and tutor Dovid’s sons in religious studies.
