Nina Blackburn, a sociologist studying hip hop as a form of communication, decides to create a documentary on the gangsta rap group N.W.H. (“Niggaz With Hats”) for her graduate thesis. The group consists of Ice Cold, the main rapper; Tasty Taste, the violent secondary rapper; and Tone Def, the talented DJ.

As Nina follows N.W.H. for a year, she learns about the band members, their beliefs, and their unconventional behavior. The group wears extravagant hats during their performances, viewing them as symbols of resistance and revolution.

Triumphant Comeback

Despite their individual struggles, N.W.H. eventually reunites for a successful comeback, putting aside their differences for the time being.
