In May 1996, commercial expeditions at Mount Everest’s base camp gear up for the challenging climb to the summit. Rob Hall, a pioneer in commercial Everest missions, leads Adventure Consultants, while Scott Fischer heads Mountain Madness. The group includes experienced climbers such as Beck Weathers, Doug Hansen, Yasuko Namba, and journalist Jon Krakauer. Rob’s base camp is managed by Helen Wilton.

Summit Attempt Turns Deadly

During the summit attempt, Rob’s group faces delays due to missing guide ropes. As they ascend, Beck experiences eyesight issues, while Doug struggles with altitude sickness. When a blizzard hits, the situation worsens, leading to tragic consequences. Scott also succumbs to the harsh conditions, while Beck and Yasuko are left stranded.
