Christmas wishes made before a long-abandoned house that start coming true lead an elementary-school girl to discover a reclusive woman living inside. From grade-school class oral reports on one’s most improbable Christmas wish, student Olivia begins to notice a few coming true. She and her friend Lucas believe it’s the long-abandoned house next door to her that grants the wishes–if they’re made while throwing a rock at it.

A Journey of Friendship and Hope

Olivia soon meets a reclusive old woman living inside, and together, they begin to review the wishes left at the gate (in a wish box built in front to stop folks from damaging the property). As Olivia wishes for a new husband for her single mom, the landlord of the abandoned house (a doctor) comes into their lives, but Olivia would rather her mom had the peppy new substitute teacher. Some things must be left in God’s hands.

The Story Unfolds

Olivia Mead is raised by her single mother Melinda Mead. Her best friend Lucas is the son of Daphney and Jeb Conroy, who work with Melinda in their bakery. Near Christmas, Olivia’s class must present each Christmas wish and Olivia and Lucas believe that the abandoned house next door to Melinda’s house grants the wishes provided they throw a rock at it. Soon the owner, Dr. Nathan Davis, wants to stop the children from throwing rocks at his house and snoopy Olivia discovers that he is the landlord of an old lady who lives in the house. Her further investigation shows that the neighbor is Elsie Waybright, a successful jazz singer who interrupted her career and vanished. When a couple of Olivia’s schoolmates fulfill their Christmas wishes, the girl believes that Elsie is an angel and she wishes for a husband for her lonely mother. Meanwhile Dr. Davis gets close to Melinda, but Olivia prefers her substitute teacher for her mother while she gets close to Elsie. What will happen until Christmas Eve?
