Artist Ashley Miller and housewife Veronica Salt are two unhappy women facing personal struggles. Ashley is finding it hard to sell her artwork, putting a strain on her relationship with her girlfriend Lisa. Veronica, on the other hand, is an alcoholic treated with disrespect by her husband Stanley, who mocks their son Kip’s drawing talent. Both women are also impacted by the tension between the United States and the Middle East.
During a party thrown by Stanley for his business partner, Lisa forces Ashley to help as a caterer. It is at this event that Veronica, coming for a drink, and Ashley recognize each other from their college days. Attempting to engage in small talk, their conversation takes a turn for the worse, and they end up hurling insults at each other. Eventually, the situation escalates to a physical confrontation, resulting in Ashley causing Veronica to fall down the stairs and slip into a coma.
Two years later, Veronica emerges from her coma with no memory of the altercation. She discovers the tragic events that unfolded during her time in the coma, including her husband’s suicide, her son’s death in the war, and the depletion of her finances for medical treatment. Living with her former housekeeper Donna, Veronica rebuilds her life and takes on a job as a maid. On the other side, Ashley’s art gains fame due to the war, leading her on a path to success. However, her personal life takes a hit as she loses her baby, faces financial struggles, and deals with the aftermath of her physical injuries.
As their paths cross once again, Veronica and Ashley are confronted with their shared past and their personal growth. Through a series of emotional moments and revelations, the two women find common ground and begin to understand each other’s pain. Their journey towards forgiveness is marked by challenges and conflicts, but ultimately leads to a transformative and cathartic experience in the woods. Aunt Charlie, witnessing their emotional confrontation, becomes a silent observer to their journey of reconciliation.
