Barbershop 2: Back in Business

The Threat of Nappy Cutz

Since the events of the previous film, Calvin Palmer, Jr. (Ice Cube) has settled comfortably into his role as the owner of the inner city barbershop founded by his grandfather and father. The shop faces a new threat from overzealous developer Quentin Leroux (Harry Lennix), who opens a rival barbershop chain across the street, called “Nappy Cutz”.

Barbershop Dynamics

Calvin tries to figure out how to deal with the competition from Quentin’s flashy establishment, while his barbers face their own challenges. Isaac (Troy Garity) feels neglected and demands star treatment, while Terri (Eve) struggles with her feelings for Ricky (Michael Ealy). Dinka (Leonard Earl Howze) is heartbroken, and Jimmy (Sean Patrick Thomas) quits to work for the local alderman Lalowe Brown (Robert Wisdom).

Gentrification Concerns

As gentrification threatens the barbershop and the community, Calvin is offered a bribe to support the city council’s legislation. Eddie (Cedric the Entertainer) reminisces about his past, including his love for Loretta (Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon) and bonding with Calvin. Gina (Queen Latifah) adds to the mix with her rivalry with Eddie and her friendship with Calvin.

Calvin rejects the bribe and speaks out against gentrification at the city council meeting. Despite the legislation’s approval, the community remains loyal to his barbershop.
