Ronald Wilby (Scott Jacoby) is a socially inept high school student with a penchant for fantasy and art. He is often mocked for his odd behavior by his peers, while his overprotective mother, Elaine (Kim Hunter), has high hopes for his future as a doctor. However, a tragic accident sets off a chain of events that leads Ronald down a dangerous path.
